Parts Authority Acquires NPW Companies: What the Expansion Means for Auto Parts E-Commerce
Parts Authority's acquisition of NPW Companies combines two major automotive aftermarket distribution networks — and creates new opportunities for retailers, dropshippers and parts businesses selling online.

Parts Square already supports both distributors. Connect your inventory and pricing to a complete automotive e-commerce website with vehicle fitment, catalog data and checkout — and start with a free 14-day trial.
Parts Authority announced on August 11, 2026 that it has acquired NPW Companies, bringing together two businesses with deep roots in the automotive aftermarket.
The transaction adds 46 NPW locations to the Parts Authority network, expands Parts Authority into five additional states, and brings the combined distribution network to nearly 325 locations.
NPW also brings significant product depth to the combined organization, with more than one million part numbers from more than 700 brands spanning traditional replacement parts, engine components, performance products, truck parts and accessories.
For the aftermarket, this is a significant distribution story.
For businesses selling auto parts online, however, there is another side of the story that may be even more important:
What happens when the inventory, geographic reach and product assortment of two major automotive warehouse distributors begin coming together — and how can an online seller take advantage of it?
Parts Authority and NPW Are Combining Two Significant Aftermarket Networks
NPW Companies has been serving the automotive aftermarket since 1969 and built a particularly strong presence across traditional automotive, engine, performance, truck and accessory categories.
Parts Authority, founded in 1973, has meanwhile grown into one of the country's largest automotive aftermarket distributors through a combination of organic expansion and acquisitions.
The NPW acquisition substantially expands that footprint again.
Parts Authority said the two networks complement one another geographically, allowing the combined organization to position more inventory closer to customers while maintaining continuity for existing NPW customers during the transition.
That geographic reach matters offline.
It can matter just as much online.
A larger distribution network is valuable to an e-commerce seller only if the website can actually connect to it. Inventory, cost, availability, catalog data and vehicle fitment all have to make the jump from the warehouse to the storefront.
And the NPW Acquisition Wasn't Parts Authority's Only Expansion That Week
The timing makes the announcement particularly interesting.
Just one day before announcing the NPW acquisition, Parts Authority announced the opening of a new 450,000-square-foot distribution facility in Olive Branch, Mississippi.
The facility marks Parts Authority's entry into Mississippi and is positioned near Memphis in one of the country's major logistics corridors. Parts Authority says the new facility is intended to increase inventory depth, improve delivery times and provide additional capacity for continued geographic expansion.
Taken together, the two announcements show just how quickly automotive distribution continues to evolve.
Warehouses are getting larger. Distribution networks are becoming more interconnected. Product assortments are expanding. Major distributors are positioning inventory closer to customers and increasing their ability to serve businesses across more of the country.
But there is an important distinction between having access to a warehouse distributor and being able to effectively sell that distributor's inventory online.
If You Already Use Parts Authority or NPW, Parts Square Supports Both
This is where the acquisition becomes particularly relevant for Parts Square customers.
Parts Square has existing integrations with both Parts Authority and NPW. Both distributors are part of the Parts Square warehouse distributor integration network.
If your business currently has a Parts Authority account, Parts Square can connect the inventory and pricing resources associated with that account to your online store.
If your business currently has an NPW account, Parts Square can connect to NPW as well.
Depending on the distributor and account configuration, these connections can use APIs, FTP/SFTP inventory feeds and other electronic data sources. Parts Square handles the underlying data normalization and connects distributor SKUs, inventory and costs to the products shown on your storefront.
That is especially useful during a transition like this one.
There is no reason for an existing NPW customer to wait for every back-end system, account or product line to eventually be consolidated before building an online sales channel. Likewise, an existing Parts Authority customer can continue operating through its Parts Authority connection as the combined organization evolves.
Parts Square handles the e-commerce layer independently of that transition.
As Parts Authority incorporates additional inventory, brands, locations and capabilities from NPW into its broader offering, Parts Square is positioned to support those changes as they become available through the distributor's systems.
Parts Square already supports both sides of the transaction. Whether your current account is with Parts Authority or NPW, you can connect that distributor to a Parts Square storefront and build your online catalog around the account you already have.
Your Auto Parts Store Can Now Be Provisioned Automatically
There is another major change that makes the timing of this acquisition especially interesting for prospective online sellers.
Parts Square has launched a new automated site provisioning and onboarding system. Instead of contacting us first and waiting for a website to be manually created, an automotive business can now select a plan, create its account and have a new turnkey automotive e-commerce website provisioned automatically.
Every plan begins with a free 14-day trial, and businesses that need live distributor inventory can begin with the Starter plan or above.
If you already have an approved Parts Authority or NPW account and the necessary data credentials, the process is straightforward:
- Create your Parts Square account.
- Your automotive storefront is provisioned automatically.
- Select Parts Authority or NPW as your warehouse distributor.
- Enter the connection credentials supplied by your distributor.
- Parts Square imports and synchronizes the applicable inventory and pricing with your store.
You don't need to build a custom inventory importer.
You don't need to figure out how to turn warehouse files into website products.
You don't need to separately engineer Year/Make/Model vehicle search and fitment.
And you don't need to manually build thousands of automotive product pages.
The underlying automotive e-commerce infrastructure is already there.

Connecting Inventory Is Only Part of the Problem
Anyone who has worked with automotive catalog data knows that a distributor inventory feed by itself does not make an auto parts website.
An inventory file may tell you that a warehouse has a particular SKU, how many are available and what your cost is.
That does not necessarily tell a shopper:
- What vehicles the part fits
- What engine or submodel restrictions apply
- What the product looks like
- Its specifications and attributes
- Its manufacturer description
- Its interchange or application information
- Which category it belongs in
- Whether another connected warehouse has the same part at a better cost or closer location
That is why automotive e-commerce requires a deeper integration than simply uploading a distributor CSV file into a generic shopping cart.
Parts Square combines warehouse inventory and availability with rich automotive catalog data, including ACES vehicle applications and PIES product information, to create a storefront designed specifically for selling automotive products.
Customers can search using Year, Make and Model, product categories, brands, part numbers and keywords, while the platform handles the connections between product data, inventory and vehicle applications behind the scenes.
A Parts Authority or NPW Account Can Become an Online Catalog
For a traditional parts business that already buys from Parts Authority or NPW, the opportunity is relatively simple.
You already have access to the supply chain.
The missing piece may simply be turning that supply chain into a modern online storefront.
Instead of deciding which individual products to manually add to a website, Parts Square can use your distributor connection to determine what inventory is available and combine that with the corresponding product and vehicle-fitment data.
That means a distributor relationship historically used to supply a store, repair shop, wholesale operation or telephone-order business can also become the inventory foundation for an automotive dropshipping and e-commerce business.
If you already have the distributor account, you already have one of the hardest pieces of the puzzle. Parts Square can turn that supply relationship into a searchable, vehicle-specific online catalog.
What Could the Acquisition Mean for Parts Authority Customers?
It is important not to get ahead of the integration.
Parts Authority and NPW have announced the acquisition and emphasized continuity for existing customers, but that does not mean every NPW product, location, account or data source instantly becomes part of every Parts Authority customer's existing account.
Those details will develop as the organizations integrate their operations.
Longer term, however, the strategic direction is clear.
NPW brings Parts Authority additional geographic coverage, distribution capacity and a substantial assortment of traditional, engine, truck, accessory and performance products.
For Parts Authority customers, that creates the potential for broader product availability as the organizations integrate their networks and offerings.
For NPW customers, becoming part of a much larger national distribution organization provides access to the scale and infrastructure Parts Authority has built across the country.
And for an e-commerce seller, increased product selection and inventory availability can translate into something very practical:
More products that can potentially be offered to more customers from more fulfillment locations.
The Bigger E-Commerce Story: Distribution Is Consolidating, but Technology Has to Keep Up
The automotive aftermarket has always been fragmented.
Manufacturers produce the parts. Data providers manage catalog information. Warehouse distributors stock the inventory. Retailers and repair businesses maintain purchasing accounts. E-commerce platforms present products to consumers.
Each layer has historically operated through its own systems, files, APIs, credentials and databases.
As distributors become larger and their networks become more sophisticated, the value of connecting those systems increases.
An online parts business should not have to rebuild its website every time a distributor expands, adds a brand, changes inventory or adds another fulfillment location.
The e-commerce platform should be designed to consume those changes.
Parts Square's warehouse distributor integrations normalize different vendor feeds into a common commerce layer, while the multi-vendor pricing engine is designed to manage products available from multiple sources.
That has been one of the central ideas behind Parts Square from the beginning.
Parts Square Has Worked With Parts Authority and NPW for Years
For Parts Square, this announcement is also a little more personal than the average industry acquisition.
Parts Square founder Daniel Hofmann has worked with Parts Authority for more than two decades, going back to his earlier work building automotive e-commerce systems long before Parts Square existed.
That relationship with Parts Authority was part of what ultimately helped shape the direction of Parts Square: building better technology to connect automotive distributors, catalog data and online retailers.
Parts Square itself has worked with Parts Authority throughout its history, and Hofmann has also worked with NPW and its data for well over a decade.
As a result, Parts Square didn't need to begin building support for these distributors after the acquisition announcement.
The integrations already exist.
We've watched both organizations grow, worked with their data and helped automotive businesses turn their distributor relationships into online product catalogs.
Seeing Parts Authority and NPW now come together is an important moment for the aftermarket — and we're excited to see where the combined organization takes that network next.

A Major New Chapter for Two Familiar Names in the Aftermarket
Parts Authority's acquisition of NPW Companies is bigger than the addition of another group of warehouses.
It combines two organizations with more than a century of combined aftermarket history, adds 46 locations to Parts Authority's network, expands its reach into five additional states and brings more than one million NPW part numbers from more than 700 brands into the larger organization.
Coming just one day after Parts Authority announced its new 450,000-square-foot Mississippi distribution facility, the acquisition also sends a clear message about where the company is headed: more inventory, greater geographic reach and a larger national distribution infrastructure.
For automotive e-commerce sellers, that's worth paying attention to.
Because as the physical aftermarket distribution network becomes larger and more connected, the opportunity for online retailers becomes larger too — provided their technology can connect to it.
That's exactly the problem Parts Square was built to solve.
